Art from the heart

I was asked the other day what my favourate sort of art was, and it really got me thinking. I was looking at english teacher jobs online at the time, but I soon stopped this and began searching the internet for different examples of art that I liked. I came accross a number of things that I found very interesting to look at, and all of the very famous paintings and sculptures of our times were appearing in the search results. Although these things were pleasing to the eye and were obviously of great skill and craft, to me there was a loss of connection with most of the pieces.
It lead me to start quetioning my definition af the word art, and what this encompases. I began to include music, dance and other various expressions in my search. It became apparent as I began looking deeper into the question that for me it was not always a case of category or style, but something a little more subbtle that made the difference. I like some forms of sulpture, fine art, photography etc but not others of a very similar style. So what was it that made some things appeal to me and not others?
It is all about the intensity of the piece, and about it being filled with passion. I enjoy many types of music, which I see as and expresion of art, and my favourate bands / singers are always the ones who sing and preform with great intensity and meaning, straight from the heart. Not a person with a good voice singing someone elses words. It is the same for all other forms of art. It doesn’t matter to me whether a piece is internationally recognised or has been made by a young unknown. If it conveys passion, meaning and intensity, then I like it!
So if you have a great desire to produce a piece of work, go out there and do it. It is not always about the skill possed, it can sometimes be about the place in your heart that it comes from.
